Topics ranged from food safety regulations to financing and marketing of a food truck business in UAE.

Now, the second seminar will open soon on April 13, 2016 from 7 PM – 9 PM at the Dubai Chamber. Interested clients’ will now have the chance to ask all the questions they have about the Food Truck business and get the answers immediately. Roundup is open for clients who want to know more information about the food truck business and the processes involved.

The Roundup Food Truck seminar is design to help answer any questions potential food truckers may have and offer guidance and expertise in the booming Food Truck industry in UAE. The focus of the seminar is to inform and educate about what it takes to start and run a food truck, what regulations typically exist, and how to position the business for success once it’s up and running.

For those who will be attending the seminar, or even those whose schedule may not afford them the opportunity to attend, here is an appetizer of Food Truck 101. If you are considering this business at all, you probably have an idea of the type(s) of cuisine you would like to sell. However, even before you begin to consider your menu, you will want to consider how you are going to sell your culinary delights.

There are six main points that everyone contemplating a food truck business should consider:

1)    You need to consider your available startup money, your money budget and the potential for returns

2)    You need to consider your commitment to the business: full time operation, part time, special occasions etc.

3)    Your creative ideas and what it will take to fulfill them (i.e. time, money, logistics etc.)

4)    Your experience (if any) at running a business

5)    The size of the business you want to start (i.e. a food trailer, a food truck etc.)

6)    Your ideal demographic

Whether you are attending the seminar this April, one in the future, or are even considering jumping straight in feet first, grabbing a notebook and thoughtfully jotting down the answers to the above questions can only serve to help ensure that your food truck journey gets started in the right direction!

Rest assured that Roundup is here to help and answer all of your questions to help you get started.

After all, we are a one stop shop for all your food truck needs!

Dubai gets #Roundedup

Are you #Roundedup?

It’s official now.

The Roundup Market has successfully kicked off in Dubai, showcasing the largest number of food trucks under the brand Roundup. It is a food truck carnival, the first in the Middle East, with various odd trucks assembling on Fridays at Zabeel Park gate 3 and Saturdays at Creek Park gate 1. One may get to eat burgers, Tex-Mex, street food, Middle Eastern sweets, milkshakes, ice creams to single-origin organic coffee.

Foodies outside Shawarma Station

Day 1 started off at Zabeel Park on a sunny Friday. Who says Dubai sleeps late on a Friday? The launch commenced at 0930 with hand-picked food bloggers and connoisseurs joining up for the food tour. A peep into the Shawarma Station food truck showed them how shawarma was made  using a fresh lemony mayo. That was followed up by the decadence of chocolate caramel and carrot cakes from 54 Diner.

Mansoor Al Bastakhi, owner of Mastiha Food Truck

Next stop was the Greek chain Mastiha. Everybody was invited inside the truck to see how they made refreshing rose and saffron milkshakes and ice creams. This is something you will not get anywhere else.

A walk through the market was delightful; seeing the innovative huts that were constructed. Time taken to put up a hut? 4 minutes by the watch!

Last stop was the single origin, Ethiopian, organic coffee truck Bio Bean. Smooth-tasting coffee refreshed the guests with that familiar coffee kick!

Bio Bean Food Truck at Creek Park

Day 2 started off in windy Creek Park. A different set of food lovers were invited for the tasty tour. The happy smiles only tell what perhaps words cannot.

So grateful for the love and support for the first ever food truck launch. This continues now: Fridays ay Zabeel Park gate 3 from 3 to 11PM and Saturdays at Creek Park gate 1 from 3 to 11PM.

Street Food Evolution : From Chuck Wagons to present Day Food Trucks

The food truck industry has been growing steadily for the past few years. Both already existing restaurants and first time entrepreneurs see great benefit from opening a food truck and rightfully so considering the present pace of world.

But the precursor to this industry first came in the 19th century by the name of Chuckwagon, when the Texas Cattle Rancher Charles Goodnight in 1866 fitted a sturdy old Army Wagon with kitchenware and food and medical supplies.

Another early relative of modern food truck is the Lunch Wagon which sold coffee, sandwiches and pies to pressman and journalists of Rhode Island. The concept was conceived by Walter Scott in 1872. By 1880s there were food wagons in many cities of the US, like Worcester, Massachusetts etc. courtesy former lunch-counter boy Thomas H Buckley. The wagons by now had features such as refrigerators and cooking stoves.

However this was just a start. Later mobile canteens were created in 1950s which operated on US army bases, but with time they also began to cater to the blue-collar population.

Traditionally food trucks have been providing a means for on-the-go person to grab a quick bite at a low cost. However in a post recession world food trucks have become a rage, wherein experienced chefs are now investing in it. Food trucks are also trying to change the image of their food as being greasy and unhealthy, as the trend nowadays is the use of fresh and local ingredients.  The trend is also going into the gourmet side of food having more and more professional chefs ride on the bandwagon.  This has produced a lot of food trucks that have increasingly gone into specialty, ethnic and fusion food. Food trucks are also being hired for special events, such as weddings, school dances, birthday parties, retirement parties, and such public gatherings as art festivals and movie nights.

Food Trucks indeed have come a long way…

5 Reasons Why You Should Get A Food Truck

Food Trucks, a successful concept in the West, is fast becoming a rage owing to their low startup costs and a medium for instant gratification. Restaurants look at food trucks as an alternative channel to reach their customers, over brick and mortar outlets. So why should one own a food truck instead of a stationary restaurant.

We list here five reasons why you should in-fact choose food trucks:

1) Cool Quotient: A Food Truck is all about quick service and unique cultural experience.

2) Hassle Free: You are not required to get into land dealings. You invest in a truck or a firm which deals with a similar franchise.                                                                                                                   3) Maneuverability: A motorized van is the best solution if you want to get around the city (or across the country) to various sites, events etc. with high footfall. No heavy lifting, simply drive…

4) Expeditious: Quickest and easiest unit to operate from.

5) Flexibility: You can update your product as and when you want. Your cooking passion gets full freedom.
